Water filter made of rubber granulate in the test phase

rubber granules

It was already known that rubber granulate, the material obtained from old tires, is extremely versatile. However, further areas of application are still being developed: Researchers at the Bauhaus University in Weimar have now developed a rainwater filter made from the coarse-grained material as part of a cooperation project with the company Lauterbach-Kießling GmbH and PVP Triptis GmbH. In contrast to other filtration systems, the rubber granulate filter is significantly cheaper and more ecological. In order to collect further knowledge, the pilot system will now be tested until August 2017 on the test field of the Materials Research and Testing Institute (MFPA) in the Mellingen sewage treatment plant.
