Study: Asian low-end tires threaten retread industry

Tire retread study

The retreading of worn tires, which are then put back on the market, is not only environmentally friendly, it also represents an important branch of the economy.
The inexpensive and non-retreadable low-end tire, which is mainly produced in Asia and is pushing onto the European market, poses a threat in two respects. Although it is no better in quality than its retreaded counterpart, cost-sensitive customers are increasingly making decisions for him. The result: The retread market in France, Italy, Germany, Spain and the UK has suffered a 2010% drop in sales since 20. This is confirmed by the study carried out by Ernst & Young in cooperation with representatives of the retreading industry entitled: "The socio-economic impact of retreading truck tires in Europe - circular economy of tires under threat". Their aim is to draw attention to the socio-economic and environmental issues associated with the rise of low-end tyres. In the retreading industry, which creates over 19.000 jobs in the nations mentioned, 3.200 jobs have had to be cut in the past six years alone.
