ILLEGAL DISPOSAL CONTINUES TO INCREASE

The cases documented by ZARE from 2023 prove that illegal dumping of used tires is increasing in Germany. The total number of reports in 2023 was over 31.000 tires. This means that the quantity has increased by a good 13.000 tires compared to the previous year. Since not all cases are reported to us, the number of unreported cases is probably significantly higher.

ZARE has been documenting illegal dumping of used tires in Germany since 2016. About the problem report Citizens can record discoveries of illegal waste tire dumping and help us publicize them. In 2023, most illegal deposits were reported in North Rhine-Westphalia, closely followed by Lower Saxony and Bavaria. The report with the largest number of illegally discarded tires came from Hesse - here a total of 20.000 tires were “disposed of” in nature in one fell swoop.

Due to current developments, the awareness of drivers and collection points such as car dealerships and workshops is particularly important in order to prevent illegal deposits. Disposal at certified companies puts a stop to illegal and environmentally damaging behavior and also guarantees the best possible recycling for each individual tire.
