Together against illegal waste tire disposal

Bonn, March 01.03.2022st, 100 In mid-February, more than XNUMX tires were illegally dumped in the forest in the town of Melle in the Osnabrück district - one of many cases. The police are looking for the polluters. The ZARE initiative provides information on what constitutes professional disposal of used tires and how drivers, garages and tire dealers can dispose of their tires responsibly.

In mid-February, more than 100 old tires were found in the forest in Melle-Riemsloh, Lower Saxony. The police are assuming organized crime: the perpetrators presumably picked up old tires in large quantities from garages for a fee, resold the usable part and dumped the unusable part in nature. This is how the perpetrators avoid the disposal costs. They often use the night to tip the tires unnoticed into the forest or onto the side of the road. The police are now looking for witnesses, because the illegal disposal of used tires is not a trivial offence. But the cases are increasing, as the documentation by the ZARE initiative on the illegal dumping of tires shows.

Around 600.000 tons of old tires accumulate in Germany every year. Since 2003 discarded tires may no longer be dumped. It is a criminal offense to leave tires in the open air and they can damage the environment. Because it takes many years for tires to rot. Proper disposal of used tires in accordance with the Closed Substance Cycle and Waste Management Act is all the more important. Reputable waste disposal companies carefully sort the worn tires and direct each tire to the most sustainable recycling path. This can be the export as used tires to other countries, the recycling of the carcass for tire retreading as well as material, chemical or thermal recycling.

Tire recycling is environmental protection

Car tires are made up of many components, including rubber, metal and textile fibers. Due to their complex composition, used tires must not be disposed of with normal household or bulky waste, but must be disposed of by professional companies. The components of the tire are valuable raw materials that can be returned to the material cycle and reused if they are disposed of properly.

A forward-looking recycling method is material recycling: old tires are shredded in special plants and processed into rubber granulate or rubber powder. Environmentally friendly, sustainable basic products are created that serve as an admixture for many new products, for example for asphalt, door seals, sports floor coverings, path borders or soundproof walls. Rubber granulate and rubber flour from used tires have robust, sound-insulating and springy properties. The use of recycled tires is a major contribution to the circular economy, because the valuable components of old tires are used several times. This means less waste and efficient use of existing resources.

Play it safe

There are many black sheep on the move in the waste disposal industry. Criminals often pretend to be reputable old tire disposal companies and garages unsuspectingly hand in their old tires there. So that workshops and tire dealers can be sure that the worn tires are disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner, they should contact certified disposal companies. The ZARE initiative includes 18 companies, 16 of which are certified waste management companies. If necessary, they collect the used tires in containers and ensure that they are disposed of in a sustainable manner. Certified waste disposal companies can be found and contacted quickly and easily via the ZARE Initiative website: https://zertifizierte-altreifenentsorger.de/altreifen-annahme-und-verkauf/
