Last weekend (01/02.02.20/13.000/XNUMX) thousands of old tires burned down in the district of Borau. The old tires have been on fire since Friday evening. The fire brigade was only able to leave on Sunday. Luckily, no one got hurt. The damage is estimated at around €XNUMX.
Now doubts are raised. Rüdiger Erben, a Weissenfels SPD member of the state parliament, doubts the large amount of tire storage and considers it illegal. In Erben's opinion, the state government had been inattentive for years. He has pointed out the dangers to the state government several times. However, even with his requests he meets with rejection. They were of the opinion that in Saxony-Anhalt no tire warehouse operates without a license and that the government does not regard such a tire warehouse as dangerous waste.
The then Environment Minister Onko Aeikens (CDU) did not see the need to clear the camp either, criticizes Rüdiger Erben. Environment Minister Claudia Dalbert (Bündis 90 / Die Grünen) agrees with this opinion and sees no reason to act.
Nobody feels obliged to take care of this tire warehouse and take responsibility. After examining the facts, the Ministry of the Environment came to the conclusion that although tire storage was illegal, it did not pose a danger. Since the state administration did not object to this assessment, the ministry did not intervene.
