The managing director of a Winnenden-based import and export company is facing charges at the Waiblingen District Court for the illegal handling of hazardous waste. The man had previously sold 400 car tires to a dealer who shipped used goods from Germany to Namibia. However, the tires could not be shipped because customs officials discovered during an inspection that they had been crammed together in packs of four, breaking the tire casings in the process. This renders them unusable for recycling, and they are now simply waste that must be disposed of.
