More and more old tires are disappearing from the German recycling system – according to the German Rubber Industry Association (wdk), around 2023–15% were exported abroad in 20. This development jeopardizes the work of certified waste disposal companies.
In an interview with NEUE REIFENZEITUNG, Manfred Draws, Managing Director of the company and partner of the ZARE initiative, warns of an increasingly vicious circle: Fewer available quantities lead to declining capacity utilization and thus lower profitability in recycling. This, in turn, can lead to reduced capacity and rising costs – with consequences for the entire industry.
Challenges at a glance:
- Export pressure deprives certified waste disposal companies of valuable raw materials
- Declining recycling rate with increasing costs
- Economic pressure jeopardizes investments in modern recycling processes
ZARE demands: Put waste tire disposal into certified hands!
Reifen Draws represents many ZARE partners committed to safe and sustainable disposal. However, this requires a stable domestic raw material base. ZARE therefore appeals to all market players – from tire dealers and repair shops to consumers – to dispose of used tires exclusively through certified disposal companies.
This is the only way the recycling cycle can function in the long term – both ecologically and economically.
