But when it comes to tires, there is still room for improvement when it comes to sustainability. In Germany, almost 600.000 tons of old tires accumulate every year. If tires are dumped illegally on heaps or in forests, they harm nature. That doesn't have to be the case: the 19 companies that belong to the ZARE initiative ensure that every tire is recycled in a sensible way. Recycling tire components reduces waste and strengthens the circular economy. Resource-saving recycling methods are primarily retreading and the use of recycled tires in asphalt, floor coverings, green roofs or other products, but vigorous recycling in pyrolysis plants.
