International Day for Waste Reduction on 30 March 2025

International Day of Zero Waste2

The International Day of Zero Waste will be celebrated worldwide on March 30, 2025. Initiated by the United Nations, this day of action aims to raise awareness of the importance of effective waste management and sustainable consumption and production patterns. The goal is to curb global waste pollution and promote the transition to a functioning circular economy.

According to current figures, more than two billion tons of municipal solid waste are generated worldwide each year. If no effective countermeasures are taken, this amount could increase to 2050 billion tons by 3,8. The consequences for the environment, climate, and society would be enormous.

As part of the action day, the event "Driving Change at the Textiles Recycling Expo" took place, organized by the European Recycling Association EuRIC. It is important to strengthen circular solutions in all sectors—not only in the textile sector, but also in other areas such as waste tire recycling.

In this context, the ZARE initiative highlights the important role of the tire recycling industry. Through retreading, material recycling, and energy recovery, hundreds of thousands of tons of used tires are kept in circulation each year. This not only avoids waste but also actively contributes to climate protection and resource conservation.

The goal must be to further optimize the recycling of used tires, prevent illegal disposal, and raise awareness of environmentally sound disposal and reuse. International Day for Waste Reduction provides an important opportunity to focus on precisely this.
