Global Recycling Day on March 18: Recycling protects resources and the climate

Global Recycling Day will take place again on March 18, 2026. This international day of action raises global awareness of the importance of recycling and demonstrates the contribution that the reuse of raw materials makes to environmental and climate protection. Recycling also plays a central role in Germany in keeping valuable materials in circulation and preventing waste.

Global Recycling Day was launched in 2018 by the international industry association Bureau of International Recycling. The aim of this day of action is to raise awareness of the importance of recycling and to establish reuse as an integral part of a sustainable economy. The initiators refer to recycling as the "seventh resource." Alongside raw materials such as water, air, coal, oil, gas, and minerals, recyclable materials should be recognized as an equally valuable resource.

Recycling helps conserve natural resources and save energy. Many materials can be reused multiple times without losing quality. This reduces the need for new raw materials and simultaneously decreases waste volumes and environmental impacts. The circular economy is therefore a crucial component of climate protection and a sustainable future. Used tires also belong in this cycle. They consist of valuable raw materials such as rubber, steel, and textile fibers, which can be recovered through proper disposal and recycling. Depending on their condition, used tires are reused, retreaded, processed into rubber granulate, or used for energy recovery. This process creates materials for sports fields, impact-absorbing surfaces, and technical applications, for example.

Certified used tire disposal companies ensure that these processes are environmentally sound and compliant with regulations. They guarantee that used tires are not illegally disposed of and that the raw materials they contain are recycled effectively. In doing so, they make a significant contribution to resource conservation and climate protection. Global Recycling Day serves as a reminder that waste can be valuable raw materials when handled correctly. Proper disposal and functioning recycling systems are crucial for the long-term protection of the environment and resources.
