Global Recycling Day was launched in 2018 by the international industry association Bureau of International Recycling. The aim of this day of action is to raise awareness of the importance of recycling and to establish reuse as an integral part of a sustainable economy. The initiators refer to recycling as the "seventh resource." Alongside raw materials such as water, air, coal, oil, gas, and minerals, recyclable materials should be recognized as an equally valuable resource.

They guarantee that used tires are not illegally disposed of and that the raw materials they contain are recycled effectively. In doing so, they make a significant contribution to resource conservation and climate protection.
