A particularly ruthless case of illegal waste disposal enrages the citizens of Spenge in the East Westphalian district of Herford. Only about 30 meters from the Franziska Spiegel memorial stone is a mountain of 30 cut truck tires and blue garbage bags. The garbage bags mainly contained insulating materials and construction foam, a total of around 330 kilograms of waste. The disposal operation took several hours of work, which was carried out by two municipal employees and an 18-ton truck with a loading crane. After the landfill had been reported, action was taken quickly, because experience has shown that such mountains of rubbish also invite others to make their "contribution".
Illegal dumping of waste is always a problem that shows a lack of responsibility and a lack of community spirit, and near a memorial commemorating the Jewess Franziska Spiegel, who was shot by two Nazis just before the end of the war, it's also in poor taste.
