Employees of the IBZ St. Marienthal Foundation in Ostritz, Saxony, collected a large amount of waste from the river during the "Clean Neisse" campaign, including a lot of old tires - enough to fill a container. In just two hours, they were able to salvage more than 50 car and truck tires from the Neisse, some of which are reminiscent of "a wild garbage dump", according to the director of the foundation, Michael Schlitt.
Incidentally, it was already the sixteenth time that this cleaning action was carried out by the International Meeting Center. According to director Schlitt, several thousand old tires were recovered from the river during this time, and many thousands more are said to be still there. However, due to the high disposal costs (especially for old tires), the public foundation under civil law is overwhelmed with the waste disposal alone.
