Spain's great "tire graveyard" now burned down

ZARE | Certified waste tire disposal company | Burning scrap tires

Over the Pentecost weekend of May 14-15, an exorbitant waste tire dump in Spain went up in flames. Now the “largest illegal scrap tire store in Europe” has largely burned down.
The responsible authorities still suspect arson as the cause. "It was not ignited by a match or a cigarette butt, but at most by lightning, and there was no lightning," said a police spokesman. The fire has since been brought under control, but it will continue to burn for a good two weeks. The toxic cloud over the landfill with originally around 100.000 tons of used tires near Seseña will therefore be visible and smellable for some time to come. Nevertheless, the regional governments of Madrid and Castile/La Mancha have declared the situation as "stable".
