At the edge of a forest in Oberweier in the district of Karlsruhe, 40 illegally disposed old tires were discovered in early March. The unknown perpetrator had thrown the tires into a brambles under a parking lot. The cost of disposal to the general public is estimated at 600 euros.
The police are currently hoping that the delivery van with which the polluter drove up could have caught the eye of a local resident or walker. Since the tires are different sizes, a smaller garage could be behind the environmental crime.
Dumping tires into the landscape to save on disposal costs is nothing new, but the "season" usually starts a little later. That is when drivers switch from winter to summer tires.
