Illegal waste disposal is increasingly becoming a popular sport. A stranger recently dumped 15 old car tires on the side of the road in Stade.
For disposal at the waste management center in Stade, 2,50 euros are charged per tire, i.e. a total of 37,50 euros. But that doesn't seem to have been worth it to the perpetrators. However, anyone caught illegally disposing of old tires faces a hefty fine of up to 25.000 euros.
The old tires were found on the side of the road in the Riensförde district, near the Harsefelder Landstrasse. What is particularly brazen is that the tires were lying next to a sign warning citizens not to dump garbage at this point. Matthias Riepe, head of Stadtwerke Stade says: "That annoys me beyond measure" and adds: "Anyone who disposes of such garbage, even in this large amount, in nature must be held accountable for it."
He decided to file a complaint with the police to prosecute the perpetrator or perpetrators.
Anyone who finds illegal landfills where they don't belong is asked to contact us by phone on 04141-401391 or by e-mail at wildmuell@stadt-stade.de. In addition, there is now a Facebook group "Wild waste in the Hanseatic city of Stade."
"The Facebook group has been extremely well received," says Riepe. The group now has more than 200 members. We regularly receive reports of litter this way."
