On May 1, 2024, members of the Liedolsheim Nature and Fishing Friends discovered around 30 old tires in the Rhine lowland canal, near the sewage treatment plant. This follows a similar incident from February, when 155 tires were found there.
Mario Hacker, the association's press officer, was horrified by the repeated environmental pollution. The immediate report to the State Water Authority led to the tires being quickly removed and an investigation being initiated by the police and the Karlsruhe regional council. Irene Feilhauer from the regional council confirmed that the disposal of the tires had already begun and that the investigation was continuing in cooperation with the police. Police headquarters are investigating a possible connection between the two incidents.
