Backnang defends itself against increasing littering

Old, worn-out tires on a messy site, surrounded by wood waste, symbolize the problem of illegal landfills in Backnang.

A new concept has been developed in Backnang to counteract the growing problem of illegal landfills – for example old tyres, electronic devices or household waste. Not only the dumping of domestic waste, but also of commercial waste increased significantly in the course of 2016. Last year, the municipal law enforcement service dealt with more than 500 cases of illegal dumping of rubbish, and 76 were reported after investigations. In many cases, however, the authorities' investigations come to nothing - at the expense of the taxpayer, who has to pay for the disposal costs.
The city fights against littering with regular cleaning campaigns: Certainly heavily soiled places are cleaned regularly, sometimes at great expense. In order to free the hillside from the rubbish, for example, the workers have to rope up.
The city does not want to provide any information about the content of the waste concept entitled "Measures for a clean city". It is expected to be presented at a council meeting.
