A serious fire broke out on January 03rd on the premises of the tire warehouse of the Thelen Group in Essen. The plume of smoke could be seen from afar, but the fire was limited to a few used tires, according to firefighters.
Thanks to the cooperation of the Gernsheim fire brigade and the Merck fire brigade, the fire was extinguished after a relatively short time. Around 6.000 tons of used tires and 1.500 tons of slag are stored on the property on Emanuel-Merck-Strasse. It is already the fifth fire on the site, which has still not been efficiently secured despite the requirements of the district and regional council.
