Illegal dumping of waste is reported almost every day in the district of Bad Dürkheim. Including lots of car tyres, bulky waste, building rubble and bags of residual waste. In addition, there are up to 20 end-of-life vehicles that are deregistered and simply left behind in public areas. Sometimes fridges or washing machines too. This type of illegal waste disposal is an administrative offense and fines of up to 50.000 euros are imposed. If the waste contains hazardous substances, it can even lead to imprisonment. Building rubble containing asbestos, waste oil, paint and varnish, for example, are among the hazardous waste. In these cases, the criminal police will be involved, since the criminal offense involved is “unauthorized handling of waste”.
The illegal dumping of rubbish is mostly reported by walkers, farmers or employees of the building yards. If a citizen finds an illegal dumping of rubbish, he should report the find to the public order office. The garbage is then picked up and disposed of by the building yard of the respective municipality.
Many municipalities organize joint cleaning campaigns in the spring, during which volunteers collect up to 50 tons of rubbish. The introduction of the can deposit has also had a positive effect on the cityscape.
